Firefighter applicants must satisfactorily complete all of the pre and post-employment processes. The following are included in the pre-employment process: written exam, physical ability/agility test, and interview(s). The following are included in the post-offer of employment process: background invetisgation including criminal history check, fitness-for-duty medical exam, and drug screen. New hires are required to complete a 12-month probationary period and must obtain an Alabama Department of Public Health Office of EMS Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic license within the first two years of employment.
